How to order a custom cake: the seven questions

Work through these in order. Most of them take ten seconds to answer, and answering them up front turns a week of back-and-forth into one message and one reply.

1. What date, and what time of day? Not "next Saturday" — the actual date. The kitchen is open Sunday to Friday and closed all day Saturday for the Sabbath, so a cake for a Saturday party is finished and handed over on Friday.
2. How many people are eating it? A 1 kg cake serves eight to ten. Count the adults who will take a proper slice, then add the people who will want a second.
3. Which flavour? Vanilla, chocolate, pineapple, strawberry or marble. Pick one. A cake this size is not split into two halves.
4. What colours? A colour, a photo of the balloons, or a screenshot of the dress. Matching a specific shade is possible and it needs a week, not three days.
5. What goes on top in writing? The exact spelling, the exact name, and whether you want an age or a date on it.
6. Is there an allergy at the table? Say it now, not at collection.
7. Collection or delivery, and to which district? Both are normal. One of them needs an address.

Why the date is the question people get wrong

Three days is the honest minimum for a cake, because a cake baked on the morning it is eaten has not had time to settle, chill and take icing cleanly. A week is needed when the colour has to match something, or when the piping covers the sides as well as the top.

Size, honestly, before you guess

The cake house size here is one kilogram, which serves eight to ten people. That number surprises people in both directions. A family of five does not need two cakes. A christening with twenty-five guests does not get away with one. Prices are quoted per order in forint. Send your date, size and flavour, and you get the total the same day, with payment by bank transfer in advance or cash on delivery.

Allergies, and the answer you should expect

This is a home kitchen. Wheat, dairy, eggs and coconut are in daily use on the same surfaces, so a trace-free plate cannot be promised. Tell us the allergy before ordering and you get an honest answer — sometimes that answer is yes, sometimes it is that you should order from somewhere equipped for it. Nobody is served by a polite guess.

Wording, colour and the small decisions

The writing on a cake is the part people leave to the last minute and then regret. Decide whether it says a name, a number, a Hungarian phrase like Boldog születésnapot, a Swahili one like Hongera, or nothing at all. Long messages shrink the letters. Short ones look better.
