Sharon · Nyumbani means "at home"

Six thousand kilometres from Nairobi, the same pot

“Every baking experience is a learning journey.”

Sharon started Nyumbani Vibes Foods the way most good kitchens begin — cooking for friends who missed home, then for their friends, then for anyone who asked. Today it is pilau on a Friday, a birthday cake on a Sunday, and trays of food for whoever is hosting. Kenyan, Hungarian, or simply hungry: there is a place for you at the table.

Good to know

Before you order

How much notice do you need?

A day for food. Three days for a cake, or a week if you want a specific colour, a tall cake or a lot of piping. Party trays: as early as you can, especially for a Sunday.

Can I order for a Saturday?

No — Saturday is kept as the Sabbath, so there is no cooking or delivery that day. Friday evening or Sunday works well instead, and food for a Saturday event can be delivered on Friday.

What does it cost?

It depends on the dish and the number of portions, so every order is quoted. Send your list and the total comes back the same day.

Can you cook for a party?

Yes — birthdays, baby showers, graduations, church and community events. Food arrives in trays that hold their heat, with serving spoons. Tell us the headcount and we will build the menu with you.

Is there vegetarian food?

Yes. Beans in coconut, sukuma wiki, kachumbari, vegetable samosa, chapati and ugali are all meat-free, and the beans are vegan. Say so when you order and the pans are kept separate.

How hot is the food?

Mild as it comes — Kenyan cooking is spiced rather than fiery. Ask for pilipili on the side if you want heat.

Allergies

This is a home kitchen where wheat, dairy, eggs and coconut are in daily use, so a trace-free plate cannot be promised. Tell us your allergy before ordering and you will get an honest answer about whether we can cook for it.
